Hello!
Today, we are posting on this website about the subject of our Fundamental Maths Project #2. After much deliberation where we thought of using Penrose tiles, Fibonacci numbers, Trigonometry in Architecture and Engineering, and even Maths in Sports, our group has finally decided on the Mathematical phenomenon that interests us all: Aeroplanes flying.
Now, what is the rationale behind our decision to choose this phenomenon?
In the beginning, our group frantically discussed on real-world phenomenons we could use for this project. As stated above, we went through many various different types of Mathematical phenomenons, but in the end, we decided that our real world phenomenon would be on aeroplanes flying because we wanted to be able to do our Maths project on something that people would actually be interested in.
The other real world phenomenons we thought about were probably things that we would only be able to see in textbooks, and others would probably not find it interesting because the topic was of no direct relevance to them. However, aeroplanes are not only something that most people use in their lifetime, but they are also part of our lives. They are what enables us to travel from one part of the world to another in a matter of hours. They connect us to the rest of the world and enable us to live our dream. With aeroplanes, we can see our friends staying overseas face-to-face. We are able to encounter other people with different cultures, skins, religions and ways of life. Not only can we learn more about how others live, but aeroplanes bring us even closer by enabling us to experience these firsthand. Aeroplanes are used for recreational purposes, business purposes and many others too!
With research done by our group, we found out that in an average day, an estimated 8,886,542 people travel in a commercial airplane. As can be seen, many people use aeroplanes and thus, our group believes that people will be just as curious as we are about how these amazing machines are able to operate and play such a big part in our world today.
Hence, our group decided our real world phenomenon to be aeroplanes flying.
In the next posts, our group will be presenting our problem statement and be explaining the mathematical concepts found in how aeroplanes are able to fly. We will then present a problem relating to another familiar real-world situation and be proposing a solution to this problem.
That's all for now! Thank you! :)
